Physiotherapy plays a significant role in helping people take control of chronic pain and improve their lives. Chronic pain is a global health burden and low back pain causes more disability than any other condition.

Incase one has pain, a physiotherapist can work with you to suggest activities or a programme that is right for you.

A physiotherapy can help one understand how pain works, reduce one’s fears about pain, educate about the condition, encourage safety measures for physical activity, build confidence and participate in activities that allow you to live life the way you want.

“World physiotherapy day falls on 8th September every year and it is an important opportunity for physiotherapists from all over the world to raise awareness about their role in keeping people well, mobile and independent. The day was established by World Confederation for Physical Therapy in 1996,” says Suzan Akori, president of the Uganda Association of Physiotherap (UAP) during a press conference at Women’s Specialised Hospital in Mulago on Tuesday 3rd September.

Akori says, the celebrations will kick off on Friday 6th September with a walk that will be led by RT. Hon. Deputy Speaker of Parliament as the chief walker and it will commence at eight o’clock in the morning at the City Square to the Mulago play grounds.

Physiotherapists are experts in developing and maintaining people’s ability to move and function throughout their lives.”There are around 350 physiotherapists in Uganda,” says Akori.

Annette Nakaluango a physiotherapist and member of the Association says, on Saturday 7th September the Association will hold a medical camp at Mulago play grounds.
