#UgNursingSchools | Kyetume School of Nursing and Midwifery is a private nursing school in Uganda approved by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Sports and licenced by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (#UNMC).
The school is located in Lwengo, an area in the Masaka district of Uganda.
According to UgFacts.com, the school had a humble beginning, starting off in 1985 as a domiciliary clinic operated by a trained Enrolled Midwife whose aim was to provide health-related services to the nearby community.
Over the years the institution trained volunteers for one year durations. These were later upgraded to the level of nursing assistant after undertaking a two year training period.
It wasn’t until 2013 that the institution was upgraded to a fully licenced school of Nursing and Midwifery by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Sports, as well as the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (#UNMC). A status it holds to date.
The school is located in Lwengo, Masaka district whose regional referral hospital – Masaka Regional Referral Hospital – serves as the clinical practice site for the nursing school’s students.
The school currently offers training programmes in:-
• Certificate in Nursing
• Certificate in Midwifery
• Certificate in Comprehensive Nursing
The duration of a certificate programme in Uganda is two and a half years.
