The UNASNM Patron as an integral part of the organ structure of the student association serves a myriad of roles principle of those being that he/she acts as the chief advisor to the association.
The current UNASNM patron is Mr Zakayo Black, the Education and Ethics minister of Uganda Nurses and midwives Union.
Brief Profile
According to a brief biography on the International Council of Nurses’ website, Mr Masereka Zakayo Black is a born of Kasese district, Uganda and has served as the General Secretary of the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union (UNMU).
He had a humble beginning starting his career as a nursing assistant through to enrolled nursing, general nursing diploma, and advanced diploma in anesthesia. He holds a bachelor’s degree of nursing science and a masters of nursing science from Uganda Christian University, Mukono.
Other roles of the Patron
•To swear in the incoming executive members in collaboration with the speaker.
•In collaboration with the general secretary and speaker, keeps physical assets of the association.
Selection Criteria
The Patron is proposed by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and approved by the general assembly.
The term of office is two years.
However, this is subject to review with a possible extension of the patron’s mandate upon reappointment by the NEC and subsequent approval by the general assembly.
