Kibuku Runs Out of Essential Cholera Drugs

Kibuku District health department has run-out of most essential drugs to treat the overwhelming number of cholera patients after the disease struck the district two weeks back.

The epidemic hit the district on April 16, leaving two people dead and 74 hospitalized at Kadama health isolation centre.

Mr Rashid Lubega-a clinical officer at Kadama told Daily Monitor that since the outbreak of the disease in the district, the ministry of health has never responded to the call despite updating them on the situation.

The district health officer, Dr Ahmed Bumba, said people have been encouraged to boil water before drinking, eat warm food, wash hands before and after, avoid fetching water from swamps/ rivers, and avoid eating foods or drinking juice sold along the roads

“All the suspected cholera cases that were received are currently confined at Kadama health isolation centre. Other patients have been barred from visiting the ward as a control measure to prevent more people from getting infected,” Dr Bumba said.
